Overhaul

Kai Chisaki
Overhaul

He had enviable loyalty but very wrong methods...
Ambition: 6/6 – S+ rank

1. Childhood.

Chisaki was found in the street, adopted by the Shie Hassaikai Boss and raised as a yakuza. The Boss was the first person to show him care.

His germaphobia has probably developed as a result of living in the streets.

Chisaki-shounen started fights with schoolmates who had badmouthed his new family. The Boss told him force towards innocent people was unnecessary and showed his bad opinion on bullying. He thanked Kai for his endless loyalty to the Family and attempts to protect their honor, though.

By the way, the plants in the background are hydrangea shrubs. The flower was first discovered and cultivated in Japan. It wasn’t randomly added in the background – it symbolizes heartfelt and honest emotions of any kind, gratitude and thanksgiving to someone else, developing a deeper understanding between 2 people.

2. Taking over the Shie Hassaikai. Why did he become a villian?

The Shie Hassaikai had lost its respect and social status. Chisaki had been feeling so indebted to the Boss that Kai made a plan to revive the organization to the state of ruling the underworld of Japan. As the society had become quirk based and heroes had risen, Chisaki had to take radical actions. For his ‘mission’ he abandoned his real name and wanted to be known as his quirk’s name Overhaul.

The Boss had turned down Kai’s plan many times as nobody would follow a heartless demon who had turned away from the path of human. The Boss reminded Chisaki that Eri is a human creature after all and warned him not to get involved in villiany and drugs. Although these Boss’ words never had an impact on Chisaki.

What was the plan?

With Eri’s help and the yakuza servants (the Eight Bullets) to remove heroes’ and people’s quirks and later make them pay for the drugs which make the quirks return.

What did Overhaul do when the Boss wasn’t accepting the plan?

Chisaki caused him coma in order him to wake up in the world of the Shie Hassaikai ruling Japan. Chisaki’s behavior then can be defined simply as “look ma I’m gonna show ya crazy”.

This was the beginning of the end of his chivalry as the Boss would say.

3. Inaccurancy he said. Chisaki is very intelligent (A+ rank) which can be told from the ways he uses his quirk to the creation the quirk-removing drugs. Where was he wrong?

He told Izuku that they all were sick with hero syndrome.

However, hero syndrome is when people cause accidents in order to save others. Thus, they gain respect or pride due to the fact they are the ‘hero’. It usually happens to retired workers who were responsible for other people’s lives.
Chisaki probably meant it as they all wanted to be heroes. From there we also understand his sociopathy – looking down on heroes and thinking he is the chosen to heal the society.

4. His/Yakuza end.

There is karma, Chisaki.

Chisaki’s moral sins – Villiany:

+ Causing coma to his father figure
+ Using a child for inhumane experiments
+ That child was the father figure’s granddaughter
    + Drugs
+ Lots of murders including the one of Sir Nighteye
    + Failed Mirio’s future as a hero
Total: Instead of reviving the Shie Hassaikai, he led to its end. All the members were arrested and imprisoned. His foster dad – the Boss remained in coma.

League of Villians related ‘sins’:
+ Killing a member (Magne) in front of their eyes and not wanting to revive her even though he could
+ Taking Mr Compress’ left hand away again in front of everyone
+ Thinking Shigaraki and the League would be under Chisaki and the Shie Hassaikai
Total: Mr Compress took Chisaki’s left hand and Shigaraki cut his other one making him quirkless – one of his biggest fears. Shigaraki stole Chisaki’s life project – the quirk-removing bullets.

There is karma as well as fanart.
In other conditions he would have made a great hero...
