Geten’s face revealed. Why is he not Natsuo Todoroki?

Before seeing Geten’s face, many people thought that he is Todoroki’s brother Natsuo. Contrary to popular belief, Geten turned out to be a completely new character which left several questions to fans.

Natsuo being the villian Geten. Why was this theory popular?

Natsuo

Ice production. Natsuo’s quirk hasn’t been revealed, but we know he is sensitive towards warm weather and looks like his mum which means he has an ice quirk probably the same like hers. It is known her quirk is very powerful but not enough to surpass All Might, else Natsuo would have been a hero by now.

Geten

Cryokinesis/Ice manipulation. It is definitely a powerful one, too. However, its essence is different – he can move all the ice nearby and alter its temperature (melted ice can return to its previous form).

Attitude towards heroes.

    Geten looks down on heroes because they spend only 3 years to train their quirks whereas he has been doing it all his life.

   Natsuo has nothing against heroes but against Endeavor which to some people is enough for him to become a villian. 

Why couldn’t Natsuo be Geten?

Geten hasn’t attended school.

    Natsuo as a son of wealthy family and a typical Japanese goes to college. His specialization is health and welfare.

Geten thinks a person must be defined by their quirk.

    Natsuo was neglected by Endeavor due to unimpressive quirk for surpassing All Might. He also probably understands that even if he had the perfect quirk like Shouto, he would be the surpassing weapon and not a person or a child in Endeavor’s eyes.

Conclusion: Natsuo is against quirk based society and relationships.

Also, if he were as good at fighting as Geten, he wouldn’t have been kidnapped by a villian and wouldn’t have needed to be saved when he was captured.

Eyes. Natsuo has inherited his mum’s gray eyes. Geten’s eyes while he was in a hood were glowing. This could be due to the ice quirk or more possibly having eyes with a lighter colour – most likely blue. Blue eyes have a high albedo – reflecting sunlight ability, which sometimes make people with them have cat/glowing eyes.

Is it possible that Geten is Todoroki’s cousin?

It’s not a popular theory at all and a close person of mine came up with it.

Geten means apocryphia – a story of unknown origin.

Theory 1.
Rei doesn’t know she has a nephew

    Todoroki’s mum Rei could have a sibling (or even an illegally born half-sibling) with a similar ice quirk which was inherited by Rei’s nephew Geten. The ice quirk went through the generations and in Geten’s case evolved during a battle – a stress related situation. It is also possible Rei not to suspect she has a nephew if he was her sibling’s secret love child or her sibling not to know they have a child.

Theory 2.
Rei knows she has a nephew

Rei’s marriage was arranged. This means either she comes from a wealthy or poor family.

   Some wealthy Japanese families consist of traditionalists who still choose their daughter’s husband by his social status (also called love type Pragma). If her sibling had a child from somebody the family doesn’t approve, it is very likely them to have ditched the kid.

      If the family was poor, the quirk based marriage was a way to stop having expenses and start getting incomes. If they sold their daughter, why wouldn’t they sell Rei’s sibling’s gifted child to the Liberation Front or just say he cost too much to the family and abandoned him?

Theory 3.
Geten is just an orphan with no specific origin

        He could have had few relatives who passed when he was little. He might have been crossing the streets helplessly until he reached the Liberation Front neighbourhood where he with his quirk was welcomed with open arms by the villians.
