Amajiki and Horikoshi
Amajiki is an exaggerated version of the Boku no Hero Academia manga artist
Being famous or the centre of attention in a crowd can sometimes make you suffer from social anxiety. This happened to the mangaka Horikoski. He wanted to create a character representing what social anxiety is in its stronger form or how you feel while having it. This is the inspiration behind Amajiki.
Tamaki Amajiki’s debut/Season 3 || Horikoshi at Jump Festa 2017
Amajiki was made to talk in front of class 1 A about his achievents in internship. He felt really anxious – he was trembling and wasn’t able to make a sentence properly in short time. 20 glances were directed to him and even imagining the students as potatoes didn’t help him talk. This leaded to Amajiki just turning his back and suddenly feeling to go home.
Kohei Horikoshi doesn’t hide he suffered from social anxiety at Jump Festa 2017. However, he didn’t confess details about this condition. We can see he expressed his inner thoughts (the anxiety symptoms above) via his character Amajiki.
Tamaki Amajiki’s past/Season 4 || Horikoshi’s past
Amajiki had to change his primary school at 3rd grade. He also had to introduce himself in a completely different place and in front of complete strangers. He was wondering how to find the right words and ended up not saying what he likes. That was when his social anxiety started.
As it wasn’t the beginning of the school year, the class had been divided into groups of friends and the new classmate didn’t fit anywhere. No one had the courage to go out of their zone of comfort and deal with the new boy apart from Mirio. He was the first and only one there to show kindness, courage and interest. He also understood what Amajiki had intended to say – that he likes heroes.
This moment of Amajiki’s past seems to be the same for Horikoshi but with the difference that Horikoshi changed middle school. That means Mirio is a prorotype of the first classmate who approached Horikoshi when he was a transfer student. Wondering who was that kind, cheerful and shining boy...
